Cargo Load Shift Recovery and Correction

Load shift correction is the process of rebalancing and re-securing cargo that has shifted inside a trailer during transit. A load shift — whether gradual or sudden — can make a vehicle unsafe to continue operating and will put you out of DOT compliance. Until the load is corrected, the truck doesn't move.

This is an on-scene job. You can't fix a shifted load at the shop when the truck is sitting on the side of the road. Auto House dispatches to your location, assesses the situation, and corrects the load there.

What Causes a Load to Shift During Transit?

Load-shifting recovery calls occur for several reasons — improper initial securing, inadequate blocking and bracing, a sudden stop or evasive maneuver, or cargo that wasn't packed for road transport. Whatever caused it, the result is the same: the load needs to be assessed, repositioned, and properly secured before the truck can legally continue.

On-Scene Cargo Rebalancing

Cargo load shift recovery requires the right equipment and a careful approach. Depending on what shifted and how far, we may need to offload the cargo, redistribute it, and re-secure it — or we may be able to correct it in place. We assess the situation before any work begins and give you an honest read on what it requires.

For loads that can't be corrected in the field, we can transfer the cargo or move the trailer with our heavy-duty recovery equipment. The goal is to get you back to DOT compliance and back on the road.

DOT Compliance and 24/7 Response

A load shift puts your truck out of service until it's corrected. We understand the urgency — every hour the truck is down is lost revenue. Our 24/7 dispatch handles load shift calls at any hour. Call (620) 654-3210 and describe the situation — we'll get someone moving your way.

We can provide documentation of the correction, if needed, for your records or for a roadside inspection follow-up.

How We Handle a Load Shift

Call with Your Location

Tell us where you are, what you're hauling, and what happened. If DOT pulled you over, let us know — that affects the urgency. From there, we'll dispatch and give you an ETA.

We Assess the Situation

Our tech arrives and evaluates the load. After that, we give you an honest assessment of what the job requires before we start.

Cargo Corrected and Re-Secured

We reposition and re-secure the cargo using proper blocking, bracing, and tie-down methods. For loads that can't be fixed in place, we'll discuss further options.

Back to Compliance

Once the load is corrected, we confirm that the truck is road-ready and that you're back in compliance. Documentation is available if needed for inspection records.

"I had an excellent experience with Auto House Inc Towing & Recovery. While I was traveling with a load through McPherson, Kansas, my truck broke down unexpectedly. I called them after finding their company on Google, and from the very beginning, their service was outstanding. They arrived even faster than the estimated time, handled my truck professionally, and safely transported it to a repair shop. What really stood out was the level of care they provided beyond just towing — they took the time to drive me to a hotel and made sure I could choose where I wanted to stay."
